The History of Crystals

Crystals have been used down through the ages for many different purposes. It is recorded that Roman soldiers wore amethyst on their breastplate as protection from their enemies. Crystals are mentioned several times in the Bible. Egyptian tombs contained many crystals and it was thought to protect their bodies and transport their soul to heaven. Roman Catholic priests used crystals to exorcise Satan and to protect against evil forces. Midwives through out time have used a combination of herbs, oils and crystals to reduce pain in child delivery. They are used widely in fertility rituals. Modern technology uses a wide range of crystals for their ability to absorb, store, and amplify energy. Every computer and television set has a crystal chip.

Types of Crystals

There are many different crystal forms and can be used for a variety of uses. Clusters are formed by several crystals growing together to form one stone. They can be programmed to protect and heal the environment. Clusters make lovely decorations for the home or work place. They can change transform negative energy and offer protection to the whole family. They will deflect stress and anger and draw harmony to you.
Single Generators (point) have one flat end and one pointed end. The energy is concentrated through the pointed end (terminator). They are used mainly for meditation and healing.
Double or multi-Generators have a terminator at both ends. Energy can be channeled through one end and out the other. Main uses are meditation and healing.
Slices are cut from geodes to display the vibrant colours inside. They can be hung in windows as sun catchers to protect the home. Blue Agate slices encourage calmness and contemplation and dissolves stress and tension.
Record Keepers have one or more raised triangles on one or more faces. Record keepers are said to store ancient wisdom and secrets. Atlantians are said to have purposely programmed them. Used for meditation to gain access to ancient knowledge.
Phantom Crystals are rare and extremely powerful. They consist of one or more crystal growing within another and aid spiritual development.
Tumbled Stones have been gently tumbled and polished to a shiny rounded finish. They can be worn or carried in the pocket for personal protection and special purposes. E.g. Motivation, clear communication, harmony, courage, peace, balance etc.
Crystal Balls are said to hold past memories and visions of the future. They are used for scrying and fortune telling and were used by Gypsy fortunetellers.
Wands are long, slender and usually have a terminator at one end. They are used for healing, massage and bring energy from above.

Choosing Your Crystals
 The biggest or the shiniest is not always the best.

Look for the one you are visually attracted to. Place in your left hand, (right if you are left-handed.) Close your eyes and concentrate on the hand holding the crystal. You should feel energy coming from the stone. i.e. hot, cold, tingles, light headed. Another method is to dangle a pendulum over your crystal to check the level of energy.

Cleansing

Method (a) Soak overnight in salt water or mineral water overnight, rinse and place in sun to dry and re-energize.
Method (b) Take swimming in the ocean, rinse and dry naturally in sun.
Method (c) Rinse; dry and cover with rice or sea salt for 24 hours and dispose of rice or salt. Rinse and dry in sun.
Method (d) Leave outside in rain; recharge in sun or moon.
Method (e) Rinse and add a drop or two of your favourite essential oil.
Method (f) Pass through steam of essential oil burner.
Method (g) Bury in the earth for 24 hour, rinse and dry in sun.
Method (h) Pass crystal through the smoke of burning incense or a candle flame.

Storing crystals with Quartz stones or on top of flat bed clusters will cleanse them naturally. NB: Never dry crystals on the tea towel or cleaning cloths. Some softer stones are not tolerant of water. Always check when buying crystals. The full moon is the ideal cycle to cleanse and charge crystals and precious stones.

Dedicating Your Crystal

After cleansing, before programming your crystal it is a good idea to repeat these words three times in a reasonably loud voice. “ I dedicate this crystal to the good of the whole universe. “ You can dedicate all your crystals at once. Crystals should never be used for black magic or evil spells.

Programming Your Crystal

Sit in a comfortable position and hold your crystal in your left hand until you feel some reaction from the crystal e.g. hot, cold, tingling.
Completely empty your lungs and imagine you are blowing away all the stress and tensions from your body.
Hold your crystal in front of your third eye chakra and imagine a gold or silver thread connecting you to the crystal.
Take a deep breath and imagine you are breathing in all the love, joy and prosperity in the Universe. Hold for 5 seconds and feel pure love radiating throughout your body.
Slowly breathe this feeling of love and peace into the crystal. Repeat this 5 times.
Tell the crystal in a loud clear voice what you want it to do. Example: protection, clarity. Lucid dreams, health, spiritual growth etc.

Ground yourself and store your crystal.

Storing your Crystals

Personal protection stones should not be touched by anyone else and should be kept wrapped in silk, in a cool dry place. Decorator or clusters should be placed in a sunny spot and cleansed regularly. They won’t work in dark dusty corners.
